The Friend is an upcoming American drama film starring Naomi Watts based on the novel of the same name by Sigrid Nunez. It stars Naomi Watts, Bill Murray, Sarah Pidgeon, Constance Wu, Ann Dowd, Noma Dumezweni, Felix Solis, Owen Teague and Carla Gugino.

Production[edit]
In February 2022, it was announced that a drama film based on the novel of the same name by Sigrid Nunez was in development, with Naomi Watts cast in the lead role. Scott McGehee and David Siegel would be directing, writing and co-producing.[1]
In February 2024, Bill Murray, Constance Wu, Ann Dowd, Noma Dumezweni, Felix Solis, and Owen Teague joined the cast in undisclosed roles.[2][3] In March, Carla Gugino joined the cast.[4]
Filming[edit]
Principal photography began in late February 2024, in New York City.[2]
