SonarTV is a student-run television service based at Solent University, Southampton. Founded in 2022, they are a reconfiguration of the original 'Sonar Media' brand which was established in 2009. They form part of the University's Students' Union.[1]

SonarTV often work to create experiences for students and to cover basketball games for the Solent Kestrels.

History[edit]

SonarTV were the joint host for the first ever NaSTAVision Broadcast with StaffsTV (of Staffordshire University) in 2012,[2] and came third place in Best Broadcaster at the 40th anniversity of the NaSTA awards in 2013, hosted by XTV (of Exeter University).

Current projects[edit]

SonarTV aim to work closely with other University Television Networks, for example, Creative Capital of Ravensbourne University, and Varsity (most recently at Bournemouth University).

Additionally, they are going through a complete overhaul of their technical gallery, which will see new editing areas, live-action slow-motion facilities (using systems by EVS Broadcast Equipment), graphics systems provided by Aston, and a 24/7 playout system built using Harmonic Omneon systems.
