Taman Hutan Raya Raden Soerjo (lt. Grand Forest Park of Raden Soerjo, often shortened as Tahura R. Soerjo) is a conservation area[1] located in East Java, particularly within the Arjuno-Welirang-Anjasmoro mountain complex. It has a total area of 27,868.3 km2, spanning 5 regencies: Mojokerto, Malang, Jombang, Pasuruan, and Batu.
The park is named after Raden Mas Tumenggung Ario Soerjo, the first Governor of Indonesian East Java and National Hero.
Conservation and History[edit]
The pioneering establishment of the forest park began in 1992, namely with the declaration the park encompassing the former protected forests of Mount Anjasmoro, Mount Gede, Mount Biru, Mount Limas, and the Arjuno-Lalijiwo nature reserve area. The rearrangement of boundaries was carried out by the Ministry of Forestry in 1997, where the area of the forest area grew to 27,868.30 Ha, with details of the area of the Protected Forest Area which was 22,908.3 Ha, and the Arjuno-Lalijiwo Nature Reserve Area (PHPA) 4,960 Ha. The park is currently managed by the Technical Service Unit under the local provincial branch of the Ministry of Environment and Forestry.
