Mihael (Miha) Roš (born 1808, Zavodenjska dolina, died August 2, 1885, Trbovlje) was the rihtar (a local official) of Trbovlje and later oberrihtar (chief local official).
His son was the mayor of Trbovlje Ferdinand Roš.
Life[edit]
Mihael was born in 1808 in Zavodenjska dolina (Hrastnik) to father Jakob and mother Lenka. Despite the family's poverty, his parents managed to provide Miha with one year of education in Celje, where he studied mathematics, Slovene, and German.
His knowledge of German proved very useful in life, as he was one of the few people in Trbovlje who could speak German. For example, he translated for surveyors who were conducting measurements for the construction of the railway. In 1824, he was therefore employed, where he received useful knowledge of surveying in addition to a modest income. When the measurements were completed, Miha lost his job, but soon he went to work in the Slovenian Hills, where he worked as a customs officer until 1837.
During the construction of the southern railway, he obtained a tavern concession and became a successful innkeeper.
In 1838, he married Jerica Ojsteršek and had a son, Boštjan, and in 1847 a son, Ferdinand.
Roš excelled in literacy and was well-known and respected throughout the valley. Therefore, he was appointed as the rihtar and later oberrihtar of the Cadastre Municipality of Trbovlje by the district leadership, which increased his reputation. In 1850, he was succeeded in this position by Franc Pust. He remained a good friend to him until his death.
In 1874, he was an advisor to the council of the public school in Hrastnik, which was then part of the Trbovlje Municipality. He died on August 2, 1885, and was buried two days later.
