Draft:First Nation of Ojibwe California

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The First Nation of Ojibwe California (FNOC) is a cultural organization of self-identified Ojibwe expatriates from other parts of North America. The organization's motto is "Gathering all Anishinabe living in California."[1]

The FNOC are included among the Ojibwe Bands and First Nations of today, despite that their origins are not geographically in California.[citation needed]

Origins[edit]

When descendants of various Ojibwe found themselves in California, a group was formed, in order for them to have the ability to "gather all the Anishinabe across California to come together to practice and engage our culture, traditions and language."[1]

The FNOC are based in Fremont, California.[2][3]

Eligibility[edit]

The requirements for tribal citizens in the FNOC are:[1]

  • Be an existing member of a nation of Anishinabe in USA or Canada.
  • Be related by blood to a member of a nation of Anishinabe in USA or Canada.
  • Proof by blood through certified DNA test and by family ancestry tree.
