Draft:Fiona Muir (Muir-Harvey)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fiona Muir (formerly Muir-Harvey)[1] was born 1955/56 in the ‘central belt’ of Scotland. Muir attended Aberdeen University and obtained a Law degree having studied 13 subjects. [2]

Muir has been publicly likened to the character Martha of the Netflix show Baby Reindeer. Written by and starring Richard Gadd, the show is based on his as own experiences of sexual assault and stalking.

Since the show aired, fans have unearthed an article published in January 2000 by the Scottish Daily Record and Sunday Mail citing Fiona Harvey as having stalked and harassed Laura Wray, wife of MP Jimmy Wray, and the hate campaign Harvey pursued after she was terminated from her position at McPhail Lawrence Partnership in 1997. [3] Another article published April 2002 cites the late MP Jimmy Wray spoke to the same paper about social workers visiting his home to investigate claims that they had beaten their four-year-old son. The couple claimed to have received threats to their safety after Harvey - 36 at the time - was dismissed from Laura's former law firm. [4] When speaking to the paper again in March 2004, Jimmy Wray briefly re-visited the stalking of his wife Laura by former employee Fiona Harvey - mentioning a legal restraining order they received against her.[5]

In an interview with Piers Morgan in May 2024, Muir denies harassing or stalking the former MP or his wife, Laura Wray. Muir claims to have received harassment and death threats since the Netflix show aired. In the interview, Muir confirms that met Gadd in the Hawley Arms pub in Camden and - whilst acknowledging some platonic correspondence between the two - denies any communication to the extent or at the scale of that depicted in the show.[6]

Muir claimed to be considering legal action against Gadd and Netflix for the portrayal of the Martha character, along with the Daily Mail.[7] At present, no publicly available information confirms that Gadd’s claims of stalking, harassment and imprisonment made in the show pertain to Muir.
