Death Note is an upcoming American television series to be produced by Netflix, Upside Down Pictures, Vertigo Entertainment, and Rideback, and releasing on Netflix. The series is based on the Japanese manga series of the same name by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, marking the third television series adaptation following the 2006-07 anime version and the 2015 live-action version, both from Japan.

Development[edit]

In July 2022, coinciding with the reveal of the Duffer brothers' production company, Upside Down Pictures, a live-action television series based on Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata's Japanese manga, Death Note, was announced for Netflix, existing as a separate continuity from Netflix's 2017 film adaptation.[1] In October 2022, Halia Abdel-Meguid joined the series as a writer after working on an Upside Down Pictures project, and would executive produce with the Duffer Brothers, Roy Lee and Dan Lin; the latter two having produced the 2017 film.[2]
