Deaddie Du Dead is a Lithuanian original English-language (OEL) manga series written by and illustrated by Arūnas Murnikovas. Deaddie Du Dead has been serialized monthly in MyFutprint Entertainment's digital shōnen manga anthology Saturday PM by Saturday AM since March 2022, with none of the chapters collected into volumes.

Plot[edit]

In a world where humans coexist with hybrid creatures, the lines between reality and fantasy blur more each day. While hybrids are common, they remain mysterious and enigmatic. They offer humans a glimpse of a world beyond their wildest imagination. Yvas is a teenage assassin who works as a hired killer for a special division agency tasked with eliminating street gangs. Although he is used to the violence and danger of his job, everything changes after a violent incident involving his friend, Lou. Yvas and his partner Alissa vow to take down the agency and break free from their constraints and the agency. As they embark on their journey, they face unexpected challenges, including a ruthless underground organization that targets Yvas. As Yvas and Alissa uncover the dark secrets behind the agency, they realize that the world they live in is more distorted than they ever imagined. In the end, they must decide whether to continue living in a world of violence and oppression or fight to create a better future for themselves and their hybrid allies.

Reception[edit]

Since the chapters haven't been published into a volume, a review of the first chapter of the series sheds light on prospects. The reviewer found that one of the main themes is the idea of disillusionment with violence and the moral consequences of being an assassin. Yvas, the protagonist, becomes disillusioned with his work and the agency he works for, after his friend Lou, a hybrid with a goat's head, is killed. Another theme is the concept of coexistence between humans and hybrids, which sets this manga apart from other manga series. The theme of freedom and agency is also important, as Yvas and Alissa team up to destroy the agency and become free. Finally, the theme of the unknown and mysterious aspects of the world is represented by the entity named "Mirtis," which symbolizes the violence and death that permeate the story and the characters' lives. The reviewer concluded "'Deaddie Du Dead' has the potential to attract readers from all over the world and introduce them to the unique world and characters created by Arūnas Murnikovas. Overall, it is a promising start for a new manga series that has the potential to captivate readers."[7]

Upon release, Deaddie Du Dead reached sudden popularity amongst English readers and got silver in the Manga Plus Creators October 2023 Monthly Award.[8]
