Cradle Song is a 1981 dramatic short film written, produced and directed by Prime Time Emmy Award nominee[2], Daytime Emmy Awards winner, and Directors Guild of America Award winner Sharron Miller[3]. It stars Richard Gates[4], Cheryl Waters (actress), Gertude Gengler, and Patrick McLemore. It was filmed on location in Perry, Oklahoma[5], the country seat of Noble County, Oklahoma[6]
The film premiered on ON TV (TV network) in 1981, along with another Miller short film, Deportee (film)[7].
Plot[edit]
Cradle Song tells the story of a young farm couple who are struggling with the impending birth of their second child, for reasons revealed as the story unfolds. The husband is tortured by a past trauma, which keeps haunting him, putting his relationship with his wife whom he loves very much in peril. Feeling isolated, she takes comfort in caring for her elderly grandma who lives with them. Meanwhile, he keeps busy working on the farm, trying to escape his torment. But eventually, he feels the only way he can find redemption for what haunts him is by revisiting the trauma in the way it came to him in the first place, risking his life in the process. His wife waits, long into the night, not knowing if he will ever come home again.
