Charles (Chenxi) Yuan (born March 6, 2004) is a
Biography[edit]
Yuan was born on Saturday, March 6, 2004, in Shanghai, China. Born Chenxi Yuan, he opted for the English name, "Charles" in September 2011 before immigrating to Canada. Yuan said, "I was almost going to be named a 'David', or a 'Kevin', but for some random reason, my 7-year-old self ended up preferring 'Charles' instead." As Yuan reminisced, he added that "Charles sounds slightly similar to [his] Chinese name, Chenxi, so that was another reason why." As a teenager, Yuan was a decorated chess competitor in his home city, Richmond Hill, in which he consistently placed top 3 in his grade and won first place in grade 8.
