Andy Mallinson is a British actor from West Yorkshire.

Early life and education[edit]

Andy Mallinson is the son of the late actress Susan Mallinson (nee Colledge, d. 2016)[1] and the late actor, and businessman, Stuart Mallinson, who was professionally known as Stuart Phillips. Mallinson's mother Susan was principally known as the barmaid in the long running BBC situation comedy Last of The Summer Wine.[2]

Mallinson graduated from St. Cuthbert’s Society, Durham University in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in biological sciences. He later trained as a screen actor at The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, and attended Inpsire Actors in Manchester.[citation needed]

Radio and acting career[edit]

Mallinson trained at Radio presenting from a short course from BBC Radio Manchester in 2017.[3]

Mallinson's broadcasting repertoire includes hosting a live, three-hour show on BBC Radio Manchester in 2017,[3] along with crafting Thought for the Day segments and delivering news reviews on occasion. His radio acting credits feature prominent roles, such as portraying Augustus Caesar in BBC Radio Manchester's "Nativity" directed by Rebecca Kelly and embodying the leading character of George in the radio play "1946" directed by Terry Hall.[citation needed]

In the realm of short films, Mallinson has depicted diverse characters, notably playing Tom in "1.2 Million" directed by Anastasia Arsentyeva, which received recognition, including the Orillo Award at Luma Film Festival 2019.[citation needed]

Although recorded before the global coronavirus shutdown in 2020, Mallinson's appearance in an episode of Sky TV's science fiction drama Intergalactic was shelved due to government COVID-19 restrictions preventing the completion of a large battle scene. Consequently, the last two episodes of the series, including Andy's scenes, were never broadcast.[citation needed]

Mallinson's stage experience includes portraying Alex, an AI robot, in "Love vs Logic" with Off the Cuff Theatre Company at Lawrence Batley Theatre, under the direction of Lee Martyn. Furthermore, he inhabited the character of Keith, an autistic bus spotter, in "The Bus Stop," a touring production directed by Margaret Holbrook.[citation needed]
