Exponentiation of -2[edit]

Exponentiation of a non-zero real number with negative two can be defined as taking the reciprocal of the square of that number. Therefore the definition can be made that $x^{-2}=1/x^{2}$ . This definition can be extended to negative numbers.^[2]
