The reduced regency has an area of 4,559.57 km2 and had a population of 1,170,048 people at the 2010 census[2] and 1,460,045 at the 2020 census;[3] the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 1,508,331 (comprising 769,566 males and 738,765 females).[1] The regency seat is the town of Gunung Sugih.
