coverage[edit]

Beside Brainard and Wright from the 1867 team only, several other future major leaguers played for the Nationals. Four more are now in the category: Birdsall 1869, Glenn 1870, Hicks 1870, and Hollingshead 1869-70. (Senator Gorman was a regular player in 1865 and no more than occasional substitute later.)

At least five other major leaguers played for the Nationals during the 1865–1870 seasons "rostered" by Marshall Wright (pp 106, 117, 144, 208, 250, 307).

1865 - Harry Berthrong
1866 - Berthrong, Sy Studley
1867 - Berthrong, George Fletcher (baseball), Frank Norton, Studley
1868 - Berthrong, Dennis Coughlin, Norton, Studley
1869 (pro) - Coughlin, Studley
1870 (pro) - Coughlin, Studley

Most of them later played for short-lived, mediocre to weak Washington based teams including the 1972 Nationals (Coughlin, Glenn, Hollingshead, Studley). (yesterday)--P64 (talk) 22:16, 16 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
