Merger proposal[edit]

I propose that Category:Rift valleys be merged into Category:Rifts and grabens. The reason is that rift valley is a very vague concept since essentially all rifts with a topographic expression can be called rift valleys but are usually not done so (e.g. Lake Vättern, Lake Ladoga, Asunción Rift, Oslo Graben). In fact it many times dubious if the current topography derives from the rifting (not the case in East Africa of course), and thus depression created by erosion in a rift area present a difficulty in establishing what is a rift valley. Another problem is how step does the slopes need to be. In short — the renaming is aimed to avoid these categorization problems by presenting a much more simple scheme.
