request - add a "sensors" category, including e.g. Photodetector, Photometer, Photomultiplier —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.2.203.14 (talk) 15:48, 7 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I removed the table, because someone came and converted all the entries in it into links, making it redundant with the category. This is exactly what I was afraid of when this table was inserted here (and ones like it in other optics categories.) The whole point of the category system is to provide a means of organizing and categorizing articles, which scales well and maintains itself in an environment where articles are being constantly edited by many people. Inserting the OSA's categorization scheme clashes with Wikipedia's system (which may organize articles differently), and is confusing since the table (now with links) appears at the top of the page, above the real category entries. Bad all around.

Here is the table I removed, for reference. It can be useful here as a guide to editors, for what articles to include in this category. It does not belong in the main namespace. The category itself should be the categorization system that readers see.--Srleffler 03:58, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Otherwise, maybe could we put it in the Optical instrument article and say "Here is the Optical Society of America's optical devices classification". 16@r 08:52, 19 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
