It is recommended that users be restrained in adding pages to this particular category, to avoid cluttering it up. Most North East England topics, such as the towns' categories, are already in the subcategories listed below (County Durham, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear), and it is usually preferable to add a page within those.

If a topic definitely covers the whole north-east without much overlap into other regions, then it should be here; a good example is the two TV channels: Tyne Tees particularly, and BBC North East & Cumbria too.

On the other hand, other local media such as the radio channels or newspapers (most of which don't cover the entire region) shouldn't be, nor should Northumbria Police, since it only polices Northumberland and Tyne and Wear, although a merger with Durham and Cleveland forces is planned, and if it goes ahead, the resulting North East police force would merit a place in this category.
