This category has sometimes been placed within Category:Christ Myth. My understanding of the category system is imperfect, but what's happening here is an instance of subcategorization--Category:Mystery religions gets placed within Category:Christ Myth, which implies that Mystery religions are a subtopic of Christ myth theory. Obviously, this is undesirable; the mystery religions have a history of their own that is separate from Christianity, let alone the Christ myth theory.

What I think was intended was something along the lines of the "See also" sections at the bottom of articles--that is, the intent was to help users who are interested in Christ myth theory and related articles to find articles about mystery religions. But subcategorization isn't a good way to do this, because it implies a hierarchy of categories--and mystery religions are in no way a subset of the Christ myth. --Akhilleus (talk) 23:59, 27 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]
