Category:Ice hockey-only athletic conference navigational boxes[edit]

I noticed that Category:Ice hockey-only athletic conference navigational boxes contains both conferences and arenas. I'm wondering if the conference navboxes are better suited for Category:Ice hockey league navigational boxes, and arena navboxes are better suited for Category:Ice hockey arena navigational boxes? I'd also suggest that each conferece, and arena navbox be under that conference's category as well. Flibirigit (talk) 12:36, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well. My only issue is that there are enough conference templates for it to have its own cat...and the cat itself is already under Ice hockey navigational boxes. And the cat does clearly say "related to". I think that the arena categories should be kept in the conference cat but also added to the ice hockey arena cat. I have no problem with the templates being added to the conference categories. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 12:41, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If the conference arenas, are categorized under the conferences, and under arenas, they would be into two different subcategories of "Ice hockey navigational boxes." I'm not sure if that is proper? Flibirigit (talk) 13:01, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sure it is. :) I think it's only an issue if it's in a subcat and the main cat. Sometimes (especially with templates), it's difficult to completely narrow it down. But I'm not going to object if you move the arena templates to the arena cat. My only issue is with the conference cat being a subcat instead of having its members in ice hockey navigational boxes instead. There are I think 5 arenas in the conference cat. So we could also do an ice hockey-only athletic conference arena navigational boxes and put it under ice hockey-only athletic conference navigational boxes as well as ice hockey arena navigational boxes. The only thing I want really is to keep the conference cat itself (populated with just the conferences themselves if need be). Anything else you want to do is fine with me. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 15:11, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Merger?[edit]

Here's another problem... the arena navboxes, have both the arena and the school on it... makes we wonder then, if the conference templates with just the schools are even necessary? Flibirigit (talk) 15:51, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Probably not. I'll take a closer look at it later this evening. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 00:30, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am suggesting to combine the templates, which is mostly complete on the "arena" navboxes. Flibirigit (talk) 03:54, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well. If you can find a way to do it while making the name of the school as prominent as the arena, go for it. :) My only concern is that it might end up looking rather awkward. That's why the arena and league templates are often 2 separate templates. Doesn't mean it's impossible. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 07:14, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The best way might be to have three columns, school, team nickname, arena... for example..

Each row would be for every member of the conference. How would that look? Flibirigit (talk) 08:45, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I think a better way would be Canisus College Golden Griffins | Buffalo State Sports Arena. People usually refer to the schools as Team nickname anyway. And we have many many articles with that format (like this one). And if it is one where we have an article, it could be Wisconsin Badgers | Kohl Center. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 03:41, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Wrote up a test one for the WCHA. It's here. What do you think? I didn't do separate lines because I think it'd lead to a very large template. That's especially true now that the conferences have both men's and women's teams and the teams aren't always the same. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 06:35, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  • I like that idea too. I've also been striving for consistent formatting, using the Template:Navbox, such as the steel blue background, related links on the bottom bar, and title columns on the left. Have a look at Wikipedia:WikiProject Ice Hockey/Navboxes. I'm slowly converting everything. I do notice that not all the collegiate navbox use the same format. Is there some other project which works on these too? Flibirigit (talk) 16:01, 29 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • Not really. There is very very little coordination on templates. Especially the sports templates. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 01:54, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • I made a few minor adjustments to your template. What do you think? Flibirigit (talk) 03:49, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
        • I like it. Looks good. :) We now need to decide how we want to handle this. Do we just replace the existing templates with these? Or do we simply redirect those templates to the new one? Obviously, I'll move the test template to Template:WCHA2 when we feel like it's ready. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 05:12, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
    • I think we should replace the current team navboxes with these new ones, then "speedy delete" the "arena" navboxes. Flibirigit (talk) 06:30, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Implementation[edit]

Here's a list of what needs to be done. I will use your test page at User:Woohookitty/Template:WCHA2 for all six of the templates in progress. It's easier than making six test pages, and we can both finish up on each other's work. Scratch it out from this list once its done. Flibirigit (talk) 06:37, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Conversion
  1. Template:Atlantic Hockey
  2. Template:Central Collegiate Hockey Association
  3. Template:College Hockey America
  4. Template:ECAC Hockey League
  5. Template:Hockey East
  6. Template:Western Collegiate Hockey Association
Deletion
  1. Template:Atlantic Hockey Arenas (emptied)
  2. Template:CHA Arenas (emptied)
  3. Template:ECAC Hockey Arenas (emptied)
  4. Template:Hockey East Arenas (emptied)
  5. Template:WCHA Hockey Arenas (emptied)
Awesome! :) I'll get to work. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 06:51, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just wanna make sure of something... If there is an article specifically about the sports program.. or more specifically the men's or women's team.. we will link to those...otherwise we link to the school? Flibirigit (talk) 07:03, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. That is correct. Good rule of thumb is that if it's a school that is Division 1 normally (like Wisconsin, Michigan State, etc), it'll have it's own article. The smaller schools (like Niagara, St. Cloud State, etc) will not. But there are exceptions. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 07:06, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Okay. I'm done Hockey East. I need to go to bed now. Will look you up tomorrow, and finish what needs to be done. Thanks alot for the help. Flibirigit (talk) 07:42, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Np. :) Btw, I am adding the conference tourney sites to the templates in the "below" section. Sometimes it's a site used by the schools but sometimes it isn't (Bradley Center is a good example for the WCHA). --WoohookittyWoohoo! 07:50, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK. All done. :) Now I'm wondering. Should we bold the names of the schools? I think they should be highlighted. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 09:05, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The new templates look good now. I'm not a big fan of having alot of bold text in templates, it looks like its screaming at you. Would you be able to delete those five "arena navboxes" now? Flibirigit 18:43, 30 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Done. :) --WoohookittyWoohoo! 05:30, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for all your hard work, above and beyond expectations! Flibirigit 09:56, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hey. No problem. If you need any other help, let me know. Templates are my "thing" nowadays. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 13:53, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Format[edit]

I think the school names/nicknames should be bolded (like so: RIT Tigers (Frank Ritter Memorial Ice Arena)) in these templates. Without some way of visually separating the schools from the arenas, it makes it very difficult to scan the navbox for a particular school. Powers T 23:01, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Anyone have any input? I tried this change on one of the templates and it got reverted. Powers T 19:37, 25 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Euro templates[edit]

My next project is to revamp all the European league navboxes & others, into the new "navbox" format, collapsible version, with a country flag in the upper right corner, and appropriate related links on the bottom. Got time to help? Flibirigit 20:15, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm starting to wonder if we should organize Ice hockey league navigational boxes by continent or country. Looking at it, it's gibberish. :) All of those acronyms. --WoohookittyWoohoo! 08:52, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Could you elaborate what you mean by "organization?" Flibirigit (talk) 08:59, 6 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
