Nationality law articles[edit]

Wikipedia has approximately 130 articles in Category:Nationality law. Until yesterday, about 25 of these articles were also included in this category (Human migration). For consistency, I believe that either all or none of the nationality law articles should be included in the human migration category. The human migration category already has 200 articles (excluding the nationality law articles), and I suggest that the category would become too large and unwieldy if it directly includes all of the nationality law articles. The category would then have approximately 330 articles. Instead, I propose that the broader nationality law category is included as a sub-category of human migration. I understand that User:SusunW disagrees with this position. Can we please have this discussion here? Nationality law afficionado (talk) 19:19, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Comment As Nationality law afficionado and I have had no discussion on this topic, it is a mischaracterization to state that I disagree with them. I asked why they removed the category and they posted this discussion. I am happy to discuss the categorization, which I do believe should be included on all nationality articles as without migration, there is no need for naturalization. I think it also would be logical for nationality to be a subcategory of human migration, but if that is the case, it would be logical to have permanent redirects established. Thank you for clarifying your concerns. I agree that human migration can result in a need for naturalization. The trouble is that human migration is a huge subject and the category could easily expand to hundreds or even thousands of articles. According to Wikipedia:Categorization, "Although there is no limit on the size of categories, a large category will often be broken down ("diffused") into smaller, more specific subcategories". To use an example from that guidance, French cities are certainly part of the Geography of France, but they are best categorised as Cities of France, which is a subcategory of Populated places in France, which in turn is a subcategory of Geography of France. Similarly, we can include all nationality law articles in the nationality law category, which can then be included as a subcategory of human migration. If I understand correctly, you are proposing the same thing, though unfortunately I'm not familiar with "permanent redirects". Nationality law afficionado (talk) 19:55, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
