weird category[edit]

defining the category[edit]

The fact that there was a CFD with no consensus doesn't mean we can't work on the category. It looks like the category was originally designed to include the cross-section of artists who are also feminists, and I think it's descriptively named that. However, there's another category that really should be considered -- artists whose art is specifically feminist art. Obviously, they would be included within this category, but unfortunately, they would be lost within the masses of artists who are feminists but whose art is not specifically feminist art. Personally I'd prefer it be limited to artists who do at least some feminist art or maybe just art with a feminist point of some kind. It'd also be good if we actually had a Feminist art article to work with.--T. Anthony 18:35, 7 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, this list should comprise artists whose work is feminist. While a list of the mass of artists who are feminists is a worthy subject, it may be difficult to verify. I agree, too. The fact that someone has expressed support for feminist opinions doesn't make her/him a "feminist artist". For instance, I think that Katharine Hepburn wouldn't habe been too happy if she had heard her work as an actress would have been reduced to that term. Also, Alanis Morissette is a great singer and person, but quite obviously the focus of her songs is usually not any kind of feminist cause. On the other hand, as has already been pointed out, there is decidedly feminist art, and I suppose the people producing this art wouldn't be too happy either if anyone who has voiced some kind of opinion would randomly be thrown in their field of work.
