Technology companies[edit]

I have combined Category:Computer companies, Category:Internet companies, and Category:GIS companies under one category, Category:Technology companies. Though, I'm not entirely sure I like this and think that Category:Information technology companies might be better. I'm working on some GIS company articles and couldn't categorize them under any one of the existing categories, as GIS is more than just computers or internet; it's widely used in Engineering, Construction/Civil Engineering, Public Utilities, and other categories. Any thoughts about the Technology category, what it should be called, and what it should contain? —--Aude (talk | contribs) 17:51, 3 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

discover all companies on wikipedia/wikimedia[edit]

Hi,

I am working on a list of aliases/alternative representations for company names, but have found it difficult to navigate wikipedia company categories.

My (quite likely wrong) understanding is as follows:

  • not all company pages use a company template
  • not all company pages reference any company category at all
  • walking down the categories from the top also includes many non-company pages
  • etc.

To your knowledge is there a good way to enumerate all companies known to wikipedia, or is it rather hit-and-miss and will likely contain many "false positives" and miss entire categories that are disconnected in the category tree?
