Dual Policy about Land in Gilgit and Baltistan,[edit]

It was a great news to hear that the people of Chilas have distributed 12000 kanals of khalisa land in konodas among them. The Gilgit is the capital district of Gilgit Baltistan where in khalis land belonging to the poeple is considered as state land. This land has been mostly allotted to people from other Regions and poor Gilgitis are deprived of the allotment of land. Under the J@K state laws, no land can be given to outsiders, whereas, Gilgit Baltistan has been kept as disputed teritorry and it has no representation in the National Assembly and Senate of Pakistan. Similarly the land in Skardu District has been allotted mostly to the outsiders. The people of Gilgit and Skardu are not allotted lands in other Districts. For instance, the Khalisa land in Ishkoman Chatorkhand is mostly occupied by Pir Karam Ali Shah , ex Deputy Chief Executive and pressent Governor Gilgit and Baltistan. The Revenue Officials have allotted lands owned by Gilgits to people from Hunza and other Districts. The recent demolishing of wall of the land owned by Anjuman Hussainia Nagar was a mischief to spread sectarian feelings to press the pressure developed for vacation of illegal lands occupied by people of Hunza in the name of welfare societies aided by the members of such societies in the Revenue Department with coveted hands.

In view of above, it is a good move on the part of the Govenment of Gilgit Batistan to appoint a Judicial Commission to probe into the illegal occupation of lands in Gilgit.
