When we say American, do we mean only the USA, or USA + Canada (since there's a lot of overlap here in academic circles), or the entire hemisphere?

It seems odd to me that on some pages in this site, writers like Kogawa and Ondaatje are not considered Asian American but Edward Said and other Middle Eastern authors are. These distinctions don't line up with the way these authors are taught in Universities.... Aristophanes68 (talk) 16:03, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
