Series 18[edit]

Its airing now on the CBBC channel on Saturday and Sunday afternoons it will be shown on BBC 1 next year.

  • Can you provide a reference (e.g. webpage) which says that it'll be repeated on BBC1 in 2007?
    • June, still no repeat on BBC1 or BBC2. Highly unusual, even if production has finished for good! Digifiend 12:39, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
      • When is it on in June - still can't see it listed? Is this the CBBC Channel again?

As far as I’m aware, the final series never did appear on BBC1 or BBC2, and because there is no DVD release I still haven’t seen it! I think the programme was pretty shabbily treated by the BBC towards the end, especially as the last series that did air on BBC1 was still well up to standard, and included some very good characters, etc. Would anyone like to provide a summary of the final series for us? 137.108.145.10 (talk) 12:04, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Just a note to say: Technically, Byker is in Gateshead, not Newcastle (It's south of the River Tyne.)

Excuse me, but this is rubbish. Byker is North of the Tyne just to the east of Newcastle City Centre - A local resident.

It certainly is, I live there! Bensham is in Gateshead - that's pretty much the only 'B-' area I can think of!

Actually, no its not, i mean its filmed all over, i was saw a scene being filmed in the old Cowgate underpassat the top a Ponteland Road, but the youth centre is actually located in Benwell i real life, right next to Scotswood. Its a building known as 'The Mitre', and i only know this not just because i watched a lot of byker grove when i was a kid growing up in Essex, but also because i moved to Newcastle at the age of 14, and after living in Cowgate, and then Byker (which doesnt have a Grove btw) i also moved to Scotswood, and used to walk past 'the mitre' everytime i walked the dog, as it was just up the road from the house we had on Woodstock Road in 'scotchy' (or cardboard city as me n me pals used to call it back in the day, cuz of all the boarded up houses from the riots). i dont know whats its used for now, but i'd love to live in it, its huge!! but yeah, byker has the byker wall, but i don't think a show about that would be very good, you'd have to set it for after nine pm watershed with all the stuff that goes on in there. lol, and Benwell Grove just doesn't sound right, so byker grove it is. My girlfriend and I used to hang out with Jody Baldwin, that played Cher in the show, now and again a few years back. Ironically it was while i was living in Byker! — Preceding unsigned comment added by D0S81 (talkcontribs) 22:59, 31 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Name of rival club members[edit]

'The rival youth club members were known as the "Denwell Burners".'
I'm pretty sure they were called the "Denton Burners".

Denwell Burn[edit]

I've changed the Denwell Burn bit, my understanding is that they weren't ever known as the Denton Burners, always as Denwell Burn. Some shots of Denwell Burn (filmed in Raby Street Youth Club in the real Byker) had 'DENWELL BURN' on the sides of the gymnasium. I think that they didn't want to name it after the area, because in some storylines the Denwell Burners weren't portrayed as very nice! However, feel free to contribute! I have a very distinct memory of the older episodes definitely referring to the rivals as Denton Burn, Denton Burners and not knowing much about Newcastle and its geography this knowledge of the name can only come from the series, and I had never heard the name Denwell Burn before! I do admit I haven't seen it in years and they may very well have changed this naming at some point, but it was definitely originally Denton Burn! CartmanUK26 11:09, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cool cool - no probs. Must admit, being from Newcastle, I've always known about Denton Burn... :) Anyway, being linked with the production of Byker Grove myself, the later series definately had the rivals as Denwell Burn. I'll change the main article accordingly! BNC85 17:51, 15 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've changed the Rival Youth Clubs section.--Darrelljon 11:37, 16 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lead[edit]

The lead is jarringly short, and what it DOES manage to tell us in its two lines of text isn't particularly relevant now that this show is no longer being broadcast. What can we extract from the body of the article in order to expand the lead to be both more informative and more contemporary (if ya know wha' ah mean)?
