Non-free fair use[edit]

As stated in the rationale, there is no reasonable free equivalent due to Qatar's freedom of panorama copyright laws, and that it is important that readers of the article have a visual context of what it is they are even reading about, which is something text alone cannot fundamentally achieve. — AFC Vixen 🦊 (talk) 04:53, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

But the copyrighted photograph you uploaded could still be replaced by a freely licensed photograph. It'll still display copyrighted material, but the photograph itself would be free. Adeletron 3030 (talkedits) 15:16, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Yet such photographs will be deleted from Commons nonetheless, which nominators consistently citing Qatar's freedom of panorama laws as the reason as to why such photographs are non-free. — AFC Vixen 🦊 (talk) 18:16, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Right. So you upload a free photo here (like File:Khalifa Intl. Stadium.jpg, for example), add a "don't copy to Commons" template and a fair use rationale. Adeletron 3030 (talkedits) 18:33, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Oh. I did not realise it was actually that easy. Nobody in this entire crapshow of a debacle has ever explicitly explained how to do it right like this; it has always been a never-ending revolving door of people just telling each other they are doing things wrong, so I appreciate this advice. I will find an alternative image from Commons before they get deleted and upload it as a new version of this file. — AFC Vixen 🦊 (talk) 19:21, 1 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
