Second pursuit of de Wet including his first attempt to penetrate the Cape Colony
Third pursuit of de Wet including his second attempt to penetrate the Cape Colony
The first pursuit of Christiaan de Wet (not shown here) lasted from 15 July to 14 August 1900, and began at the Brandwater Basin. The second pursuit began just south of Bothaville, where De Wet's commando was overrun on 6 November 1900 by Col. Le Gallais. The pursuit lasted at least until 14 December 1900, when the Boers broke through at Sprinkaans Neck. After this, De Wet tried and failed to penetrate the Cape Colony. The pursuit lasted from January to February 1901 (only shown from Philippolis), where De Wet managed to cross the Orange River. Being relentlessly pursued, he ere long returned to the Free State.
