Summary

Description
English: St Peter's Church, Forncett St Peter: one of the set of carved wooden pew ends. Showing the 'pelican in her piety', a medieval myth that pelicans fed their young on their own blood by wounding their breast and so in some ways symbolic of Christ. Many of the medieval pew ends in this church were damaged during the Reformation and this example clearly shows the replacement head carved in Victorian times on the medieval body.
