NORFOLK Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC), Ipswich & Suffolk DPAC and the disability charity 'Equal Lives' held a demonstration on Wednesday afternoon outside the inaccessible disability office at St Mary's House, opposite the St Crispin's roundabout in Norwich.
They were joined by Norfolk People's Assembly as well as students and members of the public. Clive Lewis, Labour MP for Norwich South also turned up later in the afternoon
News Line spoke to Mark Harrison, CEO of 'Equal Lives' who said: 'The Disability Assessment Centre in Norwich is still not accessible to disabled people in Norwich and as you can see, we've got fantastic support from the public.
'We're also here to get rid of the Work Capability Assessment (WCA) that is ruining disabled people's lives, forcing people off benefits into poverty and misery.
'The numbers of deaths and suicides as a result of austerity, welfare cuts, the scrapping of Disability Living Allowance (DLA), Personal Independence Payments (PIP), all of those things mean that disabled people are being killed by the previous coalition government and this government. It has got to stop!
'Disability hate crime has gone through the roof because of the way they've justified the cuts and conned the British public. It is by having poisonous stories planted by the Conservative Central Office in The Daily Mail, The Daily Telegraph, The Sun, all the reactionary papers, every day claiming that disabled people are "welfare benefit scroungers".
'They are creating a "divide and rule" system where they are trying to set poor people against even poorer people. It is the responsibility of Cameron and-his government and now May and her government. '
