Description

Montevideo is a multipurpose skyscraper located by the river Maas in Rotterdam, in the Netherlands. The building has 43 floors and its structural height is 140 m. However, together with the huge M on the roof, the building's total height is 152.3 m, making it the currently highest building in the Netherlands, but even if only the structural height is considered, it is still the highest residential building in the Netherlands. The huge M meassures 8 by 8 by 1 meters and is the logo of Montevideo. It is also designed to be a giant wind vane.

The Montevideo skyscraper was opened 19 December 2005. The building is designed by the Mecanoo architecture firm. It accommodates 192 apartments, 6050 m² office space, and 1933 m² retail space.

The building received a commendation award by the International Highrise Award 2006, and it has been awarded the Dedallo Minosse Prize. In addition it finished in third place in the 2005 Emporis Skyscraper Award selection
