Summary

Description
English: Prince of Wales Dock, Leith. As a memorial to ships which sailed the Atlantic 100 years ago in the First World War, four ships have been painted with different Dazzle designs. Two are on the Mersey, one on the Thames, and this one at the mouth of the Forth (home to the then Rosyth Naval Base a few miles upriver). This was a programme which used the skills of artists to paint ships with patterns and colours meant to interfere with the visual cues U-Boat crews used to estimate the course of targetted ships and throw off the aim of torpedoes. About 2000 ships were painted with these designs in 1917-18.
