Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) Jamal Cyrus
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) This promotional photograph of Jamal Cyrus's "Pride Frieze—Jerry White’s Record Shop, Central Avenue, Los Angeles" (2005-17) a work that demonstrates Cyrus's interest in historiography and archival research, sculpture and assemblage, and Black American history, especially music. It is a painstaking reconstruction of a record shop storefront Cyrus saw in a book, featuring an imagined history of the Detroit-based "Pride Records" label, with found album covers, altered album covers, and total fabulations. It was shared in the press packet for the announcement of Jamal Cyrus as the winner of the 6th BMW Art Journey and is one of his most recognizable works.
Not replaceable with
free media because
(WP:NFCC#1)
As a contemporary artist whose works are all copyrighted, there exist no free alternatives to this image or images of his work.
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) This is a low resolution image that will only be used in the article about the artist and his work.
Respect for
commercial opportunities
(WP:NFCC#2)
The artist and gallery do not license commercial low-resolution images of his 3D works, which are singular and large-scale, and as such, are not of value to collectors. This image was made available for free to press use as part of a press packet, and was widely published in relation to the announcement by BMW Group that Cyrus had one their Art Journey Award for 2017-18. Because there is no commercial interest in the image, and its market role was a freely-usable promotional press image, its use on Wikipedia presents no competition.
