The school opened in May 1914 and could cater for five hundred boys and girls up to the age of Fourteen, the two storey building had six classrooms on each floor and a 52 feet long 16 feet wide marching corridor. Two hundred and fifty pupils could be accommodated on each floor in classes Of between 36 and 50.
The school was renamed in 1957 to the mayflower school
