DescriptionExcuria Salon & Spa - fmr Alexander Gotwalt House - Williamsville, New York - 20200720.jpg
English: Excuria Salon and Spa, 5725 Main Street at South Ellicott Street, Williamsville, New York, July 2020. This stately wood-frame building was originally built in 1854 as the residence of Alexander Gotwalt (1819-1900), a Pennsylvania-born merchant who ran a crockery store in the village for many years, and whose descendants continued living in the house for nearly 90 years. Alterations effected by its second owner, Dr. Robert S. Pratt (1894-1964), after his purchase of the house in 1941 included the doubling of the size of the building with the construction of an east wing (where his medical practice was housed) and a large rear annex, and the placement of a Palladian window in the large frontal gable of the roof, adding a Colonial Revival flourish to the previous Greek Revival styling of the architecture (the earlier style does remain plenty in evidence, however, courtesy of the multi-pane sash windows on the second floor and the Classically-inspired door treatment at the front entrance). The building was converted for commercial use in 1978, has been home to Excuria Salon since 1996, and became a Village of Williamsville historic landmark in 2014.
