Since I was in the area I decided to visit the Governor General but to my disappointment she wasn't home........ Went inside but it is a very limited tour.
Rideau Hall is, since 1867, the official residence in Ottawa of the monarch’s representative, the Governor General of Canada. It is in a 0.36 km2 (88 acre) estate, with the main building consisting of approximately 175 rooms across 9,500 m2 (102,000 sq ft), and 27 outbuildings around the grounds.
Most of Rideau Hall is used for state affairs, only 500 m2 (5,400 sq ft) of its area being dedicated to private living quarters, while additional areas serve as the offices and the principal workplace of the governor general and staff.
Rideau Hall and the surrounding grounds were designated as a National Historic Site of Canada in 1977. The house is open to the public for guided tours throughout the year; approximately 200,000 visitors tour Rideau Hall annually.
