Object history
Deutsch: Das grüne Feld versinnbildlicht den Waldreichtum Schillingens, welcher in der Vergangenheit den Bewohnern vorwiegend zum Lebensunterhalt diente und in der Gegenwart für den örtlichen Fremdenverkehr die Grundlage ist. Das Wappen symbolisiert den Bezug zum Trierer Domkapitel, (Das Wappen des Trierer Domkapitel zeigt ein rotes Kreuz auf silbernem Schild u. darauf einen goldenen Petruskopf), es weist auf die jahrhundertlange Herrschaft der Trierer Domherren hin, welche nicht nur die Grundherren waren, sondern darüber hinaus auch die Landeshoheit in Schillingen ausübten. Die beiden Fabeltiere erinnern an eine Besiedlung bereits in römischer Zeit. Sie sind auf dem Giebeldreieck eines römischen Grabdenkmals abgebildet, welches man im Schillinger Distrikt Karmet bei Ausgrabungen gefunden hat.
