Deutsch: An die reichhaltige Geschichte des fast 2000 Jahre alten Ortes Igel erinnert das Wappen. Es ist zweigeteilt und zeigt auf der linken Seite (rot auf weißem Grund) das Wahrzeichen, die Igeler Säule. Die rechte Seite (gelb auf blauen Grund) erinnert mit der Waage der Justitia und der Gerichtsbank an das vom 14. bis zum 18. Jahrhundert fast 400 Jahre ausgeübte Recht der freien, autonomen Hochgerichtsbarkeit.
Igel, Liersberg, Langsur, Grewenich und Mesenich waren damals zu einem Hochgerichtsbezirk zur Aburteilung von Kapitalverbrechen zusammengeschlossen. Bei einem Gerichtstermin stellten die Bürger von Liersberg die Gerichtsbank, Langsur war für den ordnungsmäßigen Zustand des Gerichtsplatzes verantwortlich, Mesenich lieferte Galgen und Scharfrichter, Igel die Leiter für den Galgen und Grewenich den Strick. |
