ountain. The Potomac river flows past the town and affords fineboating and fishing, while on its northern bank is the old historic Chesa-peake and Ohio Canal, which, with its canal boats drawn by mules, formseven in this day of railroads an important means of transportation. Tothe south and north spreads out the broad, beautiful and historic valleyof Virginia. Three miles to the north is Sharpsburg and the battlefieldof Antietam with its fine monuments and National Cemetery, while someseventy miles to the south is the famous Luray Cavern. Those who live on or near the Western Maryland lines will purchasetickets to Hagerstown, the connections at this point being most excellentat this time, students being able to reach Shepherdstown before night ofthe same day of starting from points as far distant as Elkins. This is de-cidedly the best route for all to whom it is accessible. Students from Pendleton, Grant and Hardy counties, ana nefghboringdistricts, can take the Hampshire Southe
