Summary

Description
English: Carraig na Siúire (Carrick-on-Suir): The Old Bridge. Originally built in 1447 by Edmund MacRichard Butler at the tidal limits of the River Suir, the bridge was for centuries the first bridge above the estuary of the river, and hence strategically important as a link between south Leinster and east Munster. A second bridge, known as the Dillon or New Bridge, was subsequently built some 300 metres downstream in the 19th Century.
