Português: A bandeira foi criada pela Professora Cybele de Almeida Cardoso por ocasião dos festejos da "Semana da Cidade" em 20 de abril de 1975.

As cores Verde: Representa a agricultura e apecuária, principais atividades da economia do Município. Branca: Representa a paz que sempre existiu entre os habitantes do Município.

As estrelas: Branca - Representa o Distrito Sede Amargosa. Verde - Representa os distritos de Diórgenes Sampaio, Itachama e Corta-Mão.
