Nunes is a common Portuguese surname. Origin: Germanic patronymic (son of Nuno). The name itself is believed to be either of Latin "Nunnus, Nonnus", or more likely Celtic etymology.[1] Not Jewish in origin but some Sephardic Jews adopted this name.
