Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests
(Redirected from Wikipedia:Technical move request)
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Technical requests[edit]
Uncontroversial technical requests[edit]

- Timeline of the War in Sudan (2023–present) → Timeline of the Sudanese civil war (2023–present) (currently a redirect back to Timeline of the War in Sudan (2023–present)) (move · discuss) – The main page was moved earlier, see Talk:Sudanese civil war (2023–present)#Requested move 18 May 2024 FuzzyMagma (talk) 15:20, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- Khimairidae → Khimaira (currently a redirect instead to Chimera (mythology)) (move · discuss) – Family with a single known genus, title should be at genus. Chaotic Enby (talk · contribs) 22:37, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- Proto-Japonic → Proto-Japonic language (currently a redirect back to Proto-Japonic) (move · discuss) – Refers to the language, not the people, culture, or another topic. Every proto-language in Category:Proto-languages has "language" after it. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 23:21, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- Proto-Yeniseian → Proto-Yeniseian language (currently a redirect back to Proto-Yeniseian) (move · discuss) – Refers to the language, not the people, culture, or another topic. Every proto-language in Category:Proto-languages has "language" after it. — Sagotreespirit (talk) 23:21, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- Draft:Still Life (RM song) → Still Life (RM song) (currently a redirect instead to Indigo (RM album)) (move · discuss) – existing redirect blocking move. -- Btspurplegalaxy 💬 🖊️ 00:01 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- Draft:Please Don't Change → Please Don't Change (currently a redirect instead to Golden (Jungkook album)) (move · discuss) – existing redirect blocking move. -- Btspurplegalaxy 💬 🖊️ 00:37 27 May 2024 (UTC)
- Tel al-Sultan airstikes → Tel al-Sultan airstrikes (currently a redirect instead to Tel al-Sultan massacre) (move · discuss) – Typo. Also, desired new title already exists as a reidrect so I am unable to move it myself. IOHANNVSVERVS (talk) 00:40, 28 May 2024 (UTC)
Requests to revert undiscussed moves[edit]
- Tel al-Sultan airstikes → Tel al-Sultan massacre (currently a redirect back to Tel al-Sultan airstikes) (move) – There is a RM currently in progress. That should be respected. Please also move protect this page. VR (Please ping on reply) 23:28, 27 May 2024 (UTC)
Contested technical requests[edit]
- American open-wheel car racing → Indy car racing (currently a redirect back to American open-wheel car racing) (move · discuss) – WP:COMMONTERM RegalZ8790 (talk) 18:57, 22 May 2024 (UTC)
- Is it though? I'm not sure "indy car" really saw much use before the 1990s, retconning the entire history of American racing is at least worth a discussion. 162 etc. (talk) 05:02, 24 May 2024 (UTC)
- if i can chime in, the page is an overview of Indy car racing only, which has been known by that name since the 1950s. If it was an full histort of American racing it would also discuss the other open-wheel disciplines such as sprint cars, midget cars, super modifieds and modifieds. Not to mention the non-open-wheel of NASCAR and Drag Racing. The article itself is clear that the common term is Indy car. thank you 2605:59C8:10F0:1410:396E:69B0:4005:79DF (talk) 13:46, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

- Wife ((G)I-dle song) → Wife (song) (currently a redirect instead to Wife (disambiguation)) (move · discuss) – No other articles about song titled "Wife" PepeBonus (talk) 09:04, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- The song by Mitski appears to have enough coverage to make it notable and I don't think there's a PDAB primary topic. I've redirected the target to the main dab page for now. — Amakuru (talk) 11:00, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- Unless and until Wife (Mitski song) gets its own article, this is unambiguous, per WP:SONGDAB. 162 etc. (talk) 19:27, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- The question is whether it's notable or not, rather than whether there's an article... I see some sources giving the song coverage, therefore it might be notable. — Amakuru (talk) 22:03, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- No, according to WP:SONGDAB, "unless more than one article about songs of the same name exist, there is no need to disambiguate any further." This is a well-established naming convention. 162 etc. (talk) 22:09, 25 May 2024 (UTC)
- Per WP:PRIMARYRED if the non existent article is notable then we use the full qualifier. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:28, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
- Indeed. And the RFC which established the SONGDAB guideline was clear that it was for situations where the other songs of that name are not themselves notable. — Amakuru (talk) 17:35, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
