Thalasseus elegans[edit]

Original - The Elegant Tern (Thalasseus elegans, syn. Sterna elegans - see Bridge et al., 2005) is a seabird of the tern family Sternidae. The Elegant Tern feeds by plunge-diving for fish, almost invariably from the sea, like most Thalasseus terns. It usually dives directly, and not from the "stepped-hover" favoured by the Arctic Tern. Its wing is of a shape typical of seabirds, with a high aspect ratio, also sometimes referred to as the "soaring/gliding" type (see illustration).

  • Oppose. Not convinced that the image quality is up to par... It's noticeably unsharp even in the 1,280 × 960 preview. and I'm not much of a fan of the angle as it's not easy to see the shape of the bird. I think the other two images in the article are probably superior in both detail and composition, although admittedly not as dramatic. Ðiliff «» (Talk) 15:52, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment: To me, this looks very pretty (it would make a lovely poster, or look great on a wall) but is not really FP material. J Milburn (talk) 15:58, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
