Thank you Maproom for moving Modèle:Démonstration from French Wikipedia to here and modifying it. I thought about doing it myself, but discovered you had saved me the work! I'm making two changes. I've added the parameter "proof" to do the same thing as "continue". I think it's a more descriptive name. I suspect the French used "contenu" (which means contents) because the word "démonstration" is so long. The new "proof" parameter takes precedence (if it's there) over "continue" and an unnamed parameter. I also wrote what I hope is a more descriptive error message because I couldn't figure out why the "math proof" template worked for some of my proofs using an unnamed parameter and not for others. I found the answer in Help:Template.

While testing the code, I discovered that "continue" does not take precedence over an unnamed parameter unless the unnamed parameter contains an = (which generates an error if the continue parameter is not there). I thought when you name the parameter, it is always supposed to take precedence over the unnamed parameter. I can change the code so it always takes precedence, but I'm leaving it the same for now because I don't want to break any user code. It doesn't matter for my code because I'm using the new proof parameter.

In the future, I plan to add more documentation, perhaps translate the French documentation. But right now, I'm busy with a math article.--RJGray (talk) 19:30, 1 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Related templates proposed for deletion[edit]

The related Template:Math statement, Template:Math proof/start and Template:Math proof/end have been proposed for deletion. You can take part in the discussion at Wikipedia:Templates for discussion/Log/2016 October 18#Template:Math statement. – Uanfala (talk) 17:45, 18 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The deletion of the related templates is fine with me. I've only used Template:Math proof. For example, I used it in Georg Cantor's first set theory article. RJGray (talk) 17:59, 21 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dash[edit]

Why does it put a dash at the end of the title? Since the proof body starts on a separate line, and from a separate sentence, there should be no additional punctuation, per MOS:HEADINGS (see "Heading-like material" there). — Mikhail Ryazanov (talk) 01:30, 1 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
