updating[edit]

Hello. Could anyone tell me when is the most appropriate time during a race weekend for this template to be updated? I've updated it at random times during the last couple of race weekends, but I don't want to be doing this too early. Should we wait until the race has been completed? Once the drivers have qualified for the race? cya Coolug (talk) 08:42, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good question, to which there's no perfect answer. It definitely needs to be done before the race ends, because otherwise editors start changing the "last race" field in the driver articles manually. I'd say the best time is during or after qualifying. Bretonbanquet (talk) 11:37, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I'm of the mind that the template should be updated after qualifying, since drivers aren't guaranteed entry to the actual race until they have posted a qualifying time within 107%. Most drivers will actually qualify, but if a driver fails to qualify then as a one-off their last race field could be updated manually. If you don't mind I'll put a sentence explaining this on the template page, if you disagree I won't be offended by any reverts. cya Coolug (talk) 15:44, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thing is, whether they qualify or not, that race still counts as their last race. The last race field always gets updated unless the driver doesn't take part in the weekend at all. Bretonbanquet (talk) 15:52, 29 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
