Motto and motto translation[edit]

I wanted to add the English translation of the Latin motto on the coat of arms for Robert Finn (bishop) to the infobox there.

I've been getting some good help over at Manual of Style/Infoboxes and was just now encouraged to move to Template talk:Infobox Christian leader. That guidance indirectly helped me find my way here and I hereby start my next step on this little project -- as it's become -- of mine:

I don't know for sure but I've come to feel that the coat of arms for a Roman Catholic bishop is more attached to the diocese than to the bishop. It is added to the bishop's page, I know, under the Styles infobox using the "bishopstyles" template. But there's no provision for Motto in the template. I have set up the best amalgam I could from the two templates here at my Wiki sandbox. But it shows the motto in a second Personal details box (via "Infobox Christian leader") while there's another Personal details box for really personal details (assuming the motto is not really a personal detail); or, in any event, the "bishopstyles" personal details are shown in the a Personal details box above Styles (where the coat of arms resides). Awkward, in short, any which way I can see it.

And, yes, I could propose moving Motto out of Personal details in "Infobox Christian leader", as was suggested in my earlier round. But it seems to fit more cleanly here.

Thus, by that reasoning, hopefully reasonably clear, I propose adding a Motto line to the "bishopstyles" template.

Thanks much. Swliv (talk) 17:40, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

this template is a very simple frontend for "Manner of address". adding parameters won't help without adding them to that template, so you will probably want to ask at Template talk:Infobox manner of address. Frietjes (talk) 17:58, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Frietjes, I've taken your suggestion on faith and reworked the proposal here. I will say as I begin to garner what 'manner of address' means that there's nothing 'very simple' about those coats of arms with their Latin mottoes, if I may say so, as they are propagated rapidly across Wikipedia. That's exactly why I started this effort in the first place. I was buoyed in my conviction by this story which came also across the radio today re: Pope Francis and use of Latin; as I also noted in making my case over at 'manner of address' talk page. Thanks again for your helps. Swliv (talk) 00:25, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
