Stylized uniforms[edit]

Any interest in adding stylized uniforms here (see Template:Infobox national basketball team and Template:Infobox Football club)? Just following the example of the former will work quite well. Rolando 12:40, 30 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I gave it a try. See the examples. Rolando 03:06, 3 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe anyone would like to do uniforms section as optional? or maybe create seperate version in Lithuanian wiki wihtout this section? Dezaz (talk) 18:37, 20 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Uniforms with sleeves[edit]

Can there be options to add sleeves? –HTD 23:44, 23 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

3rd color in the infobox[edit]

The colors are already at the limit, about WP:COLOR. The third color in the infobox is too much and does not give any important information. I suggest removing at least the third color. --IM-yb (talk) 22:20, 30 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

MLB Infobox support of city or location[edit]

Hello, there is a discussion of city / location support (equivalent to this template) in which you might be interested, here: Template talk:Infobox MLB#City or Location support UW Dawgs (talk) 21:09, 20 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Patterns[edit]

Can a comprehensive list of all the aplicable patterns be added somewhere in the page? Also, if the team has two different color patters (say _basketballredborder and _whitesides) as part of the same uniform, is there a way for both to display at once? I have tried and the template only renders a "?". 2600:387:9:3:0:0:0:5A (talk) 10:36, 4 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Not done: {{edit semi-protected}} is usually not required for edits to the documentation, categories, or interlanguage links of templates using a documentation subpage. Use the 'edit' link at the top of the green "Template documentation" box to edit the documentation subpage. TheDragonFire (talk) 10:57, 12 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Uniform patch parameter?[edit]

Now that the clubs are setting their uniform patch sponsors in stone for the NBA, it might be a good time to add it permanently as a parameter in this template. Nate (chatter) 00:32, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 7 June 2018[edit]

Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. JTP (talkcontribs) 02:44, 7 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

NBA jersey names[edit]

The NBA no longer uses the home/away convention for jerseys[1] and instead has named jerseys which teams arbitrarily wear throughout the season. Those names are (as of this moment):

  • Icon
  • Association
  • Statement
  • City
  • Classic

Obviously this template is to be used by clubs outside of the NBA as well, but I think it's incorrect to have uniforms listed as home/away when they aren't. Any thoughts on adding new jersey fields for NBA teams? Doesn't have to be the NBA names, could be generic like "Jersey 1", "Jersey 2", etc.

The recent changes[edit]

Are messing with the display of the uniform patterns. I just stumbled upon a page where only the "alternate" was displaying despite no changes being done to the infobox. Old School WWC Fan (talk) 22:29, 28 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Mascot[edit]

How come no space for the team mascot? The American football teams have it and I don't see why it can't be part of this template as well. MostlyTexasArticles (talk) 18:14, 8 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I second this. Seems like an easy addition. Yakkity0 (talk) 10:09, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Example of one of the infoboxes with mascot field: Template:Infobox American football team. Heading out, away from wifi, so don't have time add mascot field to this basketball infobox. --EarthFurst (talk) 20:31, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Are mascots that notable? In the NBA at least, a lot of them don't even have their own page, and some teams don't even have a mascot. —Bagumba (talk) 21:12, 16 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Warnings about unknown parameters[edit]

When editing a basketball club article, the following warning appear:

Warning: Page using Template:Infobox basketball club with unknown parameter "a_shorts" (this message is shown only in preview).

Warning: Page using Template:Infobox basketball club with unknown parameter "h_body" (this message is shown only in preview).

Warning: Page using Template:Infobox basketball club with unknown parameter "a_pattern_b" (this message is shown only in preview).

Warning: Page using Template:Infobox basketball club with unknown parameter "h_shorts" (this message is shown only in preview).

Warning: Page using Template:Infobox basketball club with unknown parameter "h_pattern_b" (this message is shown only in preview).

Why are those parameters "unknown" when this template displays them? SLBedit (talk) 20:24, 17 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Broken[edit]

I have reverted the infobox breaking edits. please discuss here before making changes. Frietjes (talk) 19:20, 11 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Pinging Charlesaaronthompson so that he would see this. I am not sure why you made the change, but it is not the first time that you are changing your mind over this matter. Please stop and discuss. I am also pinging Britishfinance who is reinstating the designations by Charlesaaronthompson and is most likely unaware with the NBA. – Sabbatino (talk) 07:47, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Sabbatino. I was reverting a blocked-IP who had reverted Charlesaaronthompson's edits without any explanation; however, your explanation is appreciated. thanks. Britishfinance (talk) 08:45, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Since I was pinged by Sabbatino, here is my response: the only reason why I started messing with this template is because the National Basketball Association (NBA) decided to eliminate the traditional home white and away primary team color uniforms, and replaced them with the white "Association Edition" and primary team color "Icon Edition" uniform designs, per NBA.com. It has been a nightmare for me to try to reconcile that fact with the fact that every other collegiate and professional basketball league in the world still uses "home" and "away" jersey designs. Honestly, I tried to revert it back to where it was before I started messing with it, in order to make it easier for other editors, but it is apparent to me that the consensus is that for NBA team articles, Wikipedia must use "Association", "Icon", "Statement", "City", "Hardwood Classics", and "Earned" as the uniform name designations in the infoboxes of the NBA team articles. If any other editor who is more knowledgeable than me about editing the module at Template:Infobox basketball club, would like to step in and edit the module so that it makes sense to everyone involved, please, by all means, feel free to do so. I don't know if I'm the right person to keep messing with it, so I'll stop for now. Charlesaaronthompson (talk) 18:45, 16 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Move current season to bottom[edit]

Hello, I want to propose: moving the current season parameter to the bottom of the infobox, as in Template:Infobox football club. Also, it think it would be better if the title would be just "Current season", as now in infoboxes the club name is mentioned twice in a row. ("Cleveland Cavaliers" and after "2019–20 Cleveland Cavaliers season". --H-Hurry (talk) 06:51, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I oppose the move to bottom just because some other infobox is doing it that way. Many other infoboxes use the "current season at top" format. On the other hand, I agree on the season's title being showed as "Current season". – Sabbatino (talk) 07:01, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Notified: WT:NBA, WT:BBALL. Reason: The infobox is under the scope of both WikiProjects. Sabbatino (talk) 11:11, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Conditional support to outright remove if it's first replaced by a WP:HATNOTE on each team page to the relevant current season article. It's actually a plus on mobile, where the infobox isn't even at top of the page. Otherwise, the ibx link must stay on top. Q: How many teams outside of NBA have team season articles?—Bagumba (talk) 11:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
No vote either way, but all PBA teams have season articles. See also Category:Basketball seasons by club. Howard the Duck (talk) 01:44, 8 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Support as the template of other sports or Template:Infobox basketball league. I think all "Current season" links should be at the bottom. When a person looks at the infobox of a club article, I'm sure he/she would like to read first all the information about the club and later, if so, linking to their current season link. Asturkian (talk) 07:14, 8 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Other infoboxes that have the current season link on top: Template:Infobox NFL team, Template:Infobox MLB, Template:Infobox NHL team, Template:Infobox NCAA football school, Template:Infobox college basketball team, Template:Infobox college baseball team, and others at Category:American college sports infobox templates.—Bagumba (talk) 09:23, 8 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Request: Add Chair and Vice chair[edit]

"Chairman" is available but I would like to request "Chair" and "Vice chair" be added. Some clubs have chair and vice chair [1] instead of president and vice president. Thanks for the consideration. DaHuzyBru (talk) 07:09, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Bagumba: There is little activity here. Is this something you could consider adding? Thanks. DaHuzyBru (talk) 05:33, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You should be able to edit this, as it's only extended protected. If this was a protection issue, I'd like to see this posted to a wider audience like WT:BASKETBALL—template pages aren't watched as much–before assuming WP:SILENCE. —Bagumba (talk) 05:51, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Do you know how to do it? I added them to the doc [2], but there must be another step. I'm not good at this stuff. DaHuzyBru (talk) 07:14, 23 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
For the Willetton Tigers example you gave, are board positions relevant to the average reader when the CEO, presumably more involved in everyday activities, is already listed? Per MOS:INFOBOX: If the field is relevant to very few articles, it should probably not be included at all What's the downside of reusing the exisitng |chairman= and leaving out co-chair?—Bagumba (talk) 01:07, 24 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
