Only on this day[edit]

Great template. Is there or can there be an option for only on a specific day? Is there already a template for that?--TParis00ap (talk) 20:52, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You mean that the notice would only show up on one day and go away the following day? There's nothing like that yet, but that could easily be added. Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 18:32, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I've added the parameter afterdate so that when afterdate=no the message will only appear on the specified date and not after. I'm going to wait a little bit before adding it to the doc in case anyone wants to change the parameter name (couldn't think of anything very good). --Yarnalgo talk to me 01:09, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. This will be great for holidays and special days for certain articles. Like the MLK article can have a box for his birthday ect. Also great for my userpage to show our anniversary!--TParis00ap (talk) 14:27, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Recurring[edit]

Another idea, can it be made to be recurring? Like if I set up a Feb 14th one on the Valentine's Day article, it will show up every year on v-day?--TParis00ap (talk) 23:30, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This could be the behavior if the year is left blank? Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:43, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Or, another trick would be to just feed it {{CURRENTYEAR}} as the year, then it should always show up on the day in question, no matter what year. Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 23:45, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome idea, thank you.--TParis00ap (talk) 15:05, 30 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Time zone bias[edit]

I just first encountered this box on Valentine's Day, and have suggested it be removed from that page, but my issue with the box applies across wikipedia. I'd like to use this discussion page to raise an objection to this template in general. There is no encyclopedic value of this template, yet it may add confusion. All articles about holidays state the date on which the holiday occurs, and anyone can compare this date to their current date to work out whether that holiday is current for them. If I lived in Fiji right now, it would not be valentine's day, although it is valentine's day where I am currently writing in London, UK. How romantic. I suggest that this template is discontinued due to the fact that it produces time zone bias at all times other than exactly 12:00 UTC --Tom dl (talk) 13:42, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For the record, I intended this to be used in user and wikipedia spaces. So a more reasonable outcome than deleting it completely would be to remove it from mainspace. Although people may decide using it in mainspace is OK too. I'm neutral on that aspect of things. Headbomb {ταλκκοντριβς – WP Physics} 17:25, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
