nowiki tags[edit]

It seem to output two <nowiki/> tags. Are those necessary? --Apoc2400 (talk) 01:23, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The nowiki in the template is to avoid mishandling some titles that start or end with apostrophes. For example, without the nowiki, "|title='Yes' or 'No'" would expand to "'''Yes' or 'No'''", which is rendered as "Yes' or 'No", which is in the wrong font and is missing apostrophes. With the nowiki the title correctly expands to "''<nowiki/>'Yes' or 'No'<nowiki/>''" which is rendered as "'Yes' or 'No' " which uses the correct font and apostrophes. Just to be clear, these tags are not output. For example, the following citation:
{{vancite book |author=Smith JR |title=She Said 'Yes' |date=2008 |publisher=Nonrandom House }}
generates the following HTML:
<span class="citation">Smith JR. <i>She Said 'Yes'</i>. Nonrandom House; 2008.</span>
and there aren't any nowiki tags in that output. Eubulides (talk) 02:15, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
  • Ah, right, they only exist after the expand templates step. I see the point too. --Apoc2400 (talk) 12:22, 27 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Examples[edit]

The Vacouver guides show the author formatted as last, first initial. The examples are using first last. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 12:57, 13 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Help:Citation Style Vancouver[edit]

I started Help:Citation Style Vancouver to codify this style. If anyone is active in this, please expand. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 21:14, 9 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
