Taxonomy: For all marine species, Project Gastropods uses the taxonomy in the online database WoRMS. When starting a new article, do not use sources of taxonomic information that predate the 2017 revision for all gastropod groups ("Revised Classification, Nomenclator and Typification of Gastropod and Monoplacophoran Families" by Philippe Bouchet & Jean-Pierre Rocroi, Bernhard Hausdorf, Andrzej Kaim, Yasunori Kano, Alexander Nützel, Pavel Parkhaev, Michael Schrödl and Ellen E. Strong in Malacologia, 2017, 61(1–2): 1–526.) (can be dowloaded at Researchgate.net), substituting the previous classification of 2005 Taxonomy of the Gastropoda (Bouchet & Rocroi, 2005). If you need help with any aspect of an article, please leave a note at the Project talk page.

Notes[edit]

Gastropods like land snails undergoe "torsion", in which their anatomy is arranged such that the mouth is juxtaposed with the anus, which coils in through the body and exits right out where the mouth is. The diagram is somewhat misleading. 01:11, 8 December 2011‎ 192.104.254.210

I also have problems with this image, but not because of the position of the anus, which does not open "right out where the mouth is" but under the mantle. I find this image confusing because she shell appears to be sinistral instead of dextral and the genital pore appears to open on the underside of the foot! BTW, the anus does not "exit right out where the mouth is" but is above the head and slightly to one side. Nonetheless there are several different problems with this image. Invertzoo (talk) 22:26, 14 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
